One of the best things about our job is that we get to meet so many new and different people through our work. But another one of the best things about our job is that it gives us an excuse to reunite with people we already know and love. This year, we’ve been lucky enough to film the weddings of some really good friends and nothing compares to capturing the best day in the lives of someone who is really special to you.
I pretty much grew up with Christy. Her parents and my parents were friends from way back and I have tons of childhood memories with Christy and her brother, Jon. Boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, spending the holidays together, barbecues by the pool… even the time we all caught chicken pox from each other at Christmas and spent the first week of the new year laid up in bed, trying not to scratch.
While Christy and I haven’t seen as much of each other as the years have gone on, we stayed in touch via social media and were able to keep up with the developments in each others’ lives. Christy cheered Tom and I on when we started Long Haul Films and she knows more than a little bit about what it’s like to work with your other half… Christy and Michael run a successful business together.
Like us, they are also WAY obsessed with their dog. Tiny plays a starring role in their wedding film: not only was he around while Christy got ready in the morning, he joined his parents on the dance floor at the end of the night. We have yet to get Tiny and our pup, Angell, together… but I’m pretty sure when we do it will be extremely adorable.
One of our favorite moments from the wedding, which is featured in the trailer, is when Christy’s Dad, Lou, shares a story from her childhood… .when Christy was a little girl, he says, she’d spontaneously wave her hands in the air and shout “I love life!” That infectious positive energy is something that I see in Christy today, and it’s something she shares with Michael. You can tell these two make the most of every moment and spend a lot of time laughing and having fun together. There were many times on the dance floor when I watched Christy throw her hands up in the air with carefree abandon and thought how wonderful it was to see her loving life so much.
As if it wasn’t nice enough to be filming the wedding of close friends, we also got the opportunity to work alongside one of the photographers we most like and admire– Doug Levy. Doug has an awesome energy; he’s fun, collaborative and his whole approach to shooting is very similar to ours. We also love his work and encourage you to hop on over and check out his photography from Christy and Mike’s wedding here or their gorgeous engagement shoot that features a whole bunch more Tiny- on a boat!
Also wanted to mention:
Christy and Mike (and Tiny), thank you for inviting Long Haul Films to be there for your wedding day. We can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead for the two of you (and Tiny, too!).
